Caloric Range Surface Burner - 8 Inch - 2600W
★★★★★
★★★★★
17 Reviews
PartSelect Number PS11743367
Manufacturer Part Number WP660533
The surface burner or element on your range provides the heat that you cook with. If your element will not heat, you may need to replace the surface burner. This surface burner is 8 inches in diameter and 2600 watts. The burner element is made of metal and has two prongs that connect it to the range. The manufacturer recommends you replace the burner receptacle at the same time that you replace the surface burner. Many of our customers have rated this repair as very easy. To complete the repair simply lift the old burner up and out, and replace it with the new one. Be sure to disconnect power to the range before beginning this repair.

8 inch burner wouldn't come on. Wires shorted out
One screw holds the block onto the stove top. Had to clean out fitting for phillips screwdriver or screw would have stripped because it was old with lots of buildup. Even cleaned out, this screw required great force with phillips screwdriver to keep from stripping. Caution! If you strip it, you'll have to drill it out! The rest was a snap. Cut the old wires leading to the old block (not too close to where wires disappear into back of stove, though!). Strip insulation off both wires and attach with the connectors that came in the kit. Then push the wires into the block, and finally, attach the block back to the stove top (new screw is supplied). Restore power and everything should be fine. One problem: Roper/Whirlpool built their appliance in such a way that when the connector block shorts out, it usually takes the infinite switch with it. So I ended up having to go back and purchase that switch as well (which just so happens to cost twice to three times as much!). If you put it all back together and it still doesn't work, that's probably what happened, so go ahead and remove the knob panel and check that switch (it's right behind the control knobs on the front). You will probably find a burned connector at the back top left or the switch. Don't forget to write down which wire goes where (or just take a picture of it). Read more...

The Baking element in the bottom of the stove apparently shorted out and partially melted
First I turned off the circuit breaker on the house electricity panel. I removed the two screws that held the element in place in the oven. There were two wires connected to the element by spade plugs that were free floating in a fiberglass pad. I reconnected the spade plugs and put the element back in place and put back in the two screws. This procedure had I known what I was doing could have been done with the stove in place and would take no more than 5 to 10 minutes. Having no experience at this, I had pulled the stove out into the room and also removed the back cover which turned out to be unnecessary. I put everything back in place and held my breath and turned on the circuit breaker. Voila! It worked! Read more...

Stove heat was inconsistent and
After turning off the circuit breaker, I removed the elements and pans, raised the top and cut the wires to the receptacle assembly. Stripped the wires, slid on the shrink tubing and applied the wire nuts. I used a hair dryer rather than a match to shrink the tubing. Reinstalled the drip pans and inserted the elements. The instructions were clear and the project was easy. The stove works like new. Read more...

Stove would not heat up
Cut old wires to receptacle, striped the wires, wire nutted to new receptacle, screwed new receptacle into stove and installed heating element.

Piece of cake, but then again my degree is in electrical engineering so I should be able to handle a couple of wire nuts.

Broiler stopped workin in summer. Oven had no heat for wife to make Christmas cookies.
First thing I tripped the range breaker. Pulled the range out from the wall and unpluged main plug. I then removed the 12 sheet metal screws from the back lower cover.
I then unpluged the wires from the four element connections and marked the color on the range back. Two upper blue and red and two lower yellow and red. I then tested the resistance of the elements to confirm that they were bad. With volt/ ohm meter set for OHM'S I had no reading.
When my new parts arrived I first made sure that they matched the origonals. I tested the OHM'S on the new parts and began the change.
I removed the two upper element holding screws on the inside rear wall. I then removed the two hanging support screws from the inside top of the oven. For the oven element, simply remove the one screw at the back wall.
Reassembly is reverse of removal.
The element ends will stick out the back side of the range about one inch.Be sure that insulation is in place and that there is no contact between element ends and metal walls.Attatch the wires as you had them marked on the back. Replace the rear cover and tighten all the screws. Plug main plug back into socket. Reset breaker and slowley turn oven control up to a low temperature setting. After a few minuets the oven indicator light will go out.Open oven and check the temperature.
End cap has three screws to remove. Slip off old cap and replace with new one. Snug the three screws. Push the range back in place.
Have the wife back some cookies and enjoy.
